The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you . . ." So Abram left, as the LORD had told him . . .
God called Abram to leave his roots (land, people, family) and go to another land. Abram obeyed. Imagine how challenging a call this must have been for Abram. Remember that there was no postal service, telegram or telephone, internet or email, smart phone, Facebook, WhatsApp, twitter, or Instagram. Our world today is connected so well with technology that no matter where we go—whether another part of the country or to another nation—we can still connect with our families that we leave behind from the comfort of our homes. Moreover, making regular trips back home is not too difficult from any part of the world. Yet we find it very difficult to leave our land and family to go to a new place, especially if it is in response to the Lord’s call. (Many are willing to leave their roots and go if they can make lots of money or a great career!) How much more difficult it must have been for Abram considering his times! Nonetheless, he responded positively and went. The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us that Abram did not even know where he was going, at least initially; yet he stepped out in faith (Heb. 11:8). This is radical faith! God is looking for such radical faith from His children who will follow Him wholeheartedly irrespective of the cost involved. Are you one of those with radical faith? Am I?
May the Lord help us to have radical faith that we will obey Him no matter what the cost!
